💪🏼Joining Forces to Fight Teenage Suicide: A Personal Journey of Advocacy

Jan 07, 2024

In life, some encounters and experiences shape our paths in unexpected ways. For me, it began with a chance introduction to Clark Flatt, the founder of a foundation dedicated to preventing teenage suicide. Little did I know that this encounter would ignite a passion within me to make a meaningful difference in this critical cause.

Unexpected Connections and Shared Commitments

It all started when I crossed paths with Phillip Fulmer, who introduced me to Clark Flatt, a man dedicated to preventing teenage suicide. The connection unfolded organically through an annual golf tournament organized by the foundation. Surrounded by individuals like Coach Fulmer and the late Charlie Daniels, passionate discussions about raising awareness and reaching out to more people became a norm.

Personal Impact and Inspiration

Amidst these discussions, Clark Flatt's speech at my daughter's school left an indelible mark on me. His words resonated deeply, compelling me to take action and contribute in any way possible. It was a pivotal moment where I realized that my efforts could be channeled into this cause—a cause greater than myself.

Finding Purpose and Meaning

As I delved into writing my book, The Daily Climb, the echoes of Clark's speech lingered in my mind. It became evident that advocating for preventing teenage suicide was a cause I deeply believed in—a cause that aligned with my desire to make a positive impact. This alignment fueled my determination to join the fight against this critical issue.

Making a Difference Together

United with Clark, Coach Fulmer, and other passionate individuals, I found a sense of purpose in contributing to the foundation's mission. The collaboration, the discussions, and the shared goal of raising awareness became a driving force, compelling me to play an active role in advocating for mental health awareness among teenagers.

In the journey of life, we often encounter moments that shape our purpose and convictions. For me, meeting Clark Flatt and becoming involved in the foundation's cause to prevent teenage suicide was one such defining moment. It's a reminder that each of us can make a difference, that our actions, no matter how small, contribute to a larger cause.

Together with dedicated individuals like Clark, Coach Fulmer, and the late Charlie Daniels, I've found a purpose—a purpose to raise awareness, support those in need, and advocate for mental health among teenagers. It's not just a cause; it's a commitment—a commitment to make the world a safer and more compassionate place for our youth.

In my book, The Daily Climb, in Principle 9, I talk about Purpose and what it means to know what your Purpose is.
