โฑWhat About Now?
Nov 03, 2023Preaching to myself again today -
We all think about the future too much. Are we going to get there, how to get there, finances, business, what-ifs, the current state of the world…
Worrying, analyzing and/or trying to control the future is robbing you of the current moment.
Yes, there is a time for preparation, but continually thinking of the future guarantees you'll never enjoy in the present.
When we allow ourselves to fully engage with the present moment, we become more aware of our thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. We improve our relationships with others, as we are better able to listen and empathize with those around us.
In my book, The Daily Climb, I share in Principle #8, Plan to Fail, a few stories that truly could have hindered my future if I had chosen to stay in those past experiences. It’s not to say that I didn’t hurt, beat myself up, and yes, worry about the future, but those experiences definitely taught me to be more mindful of appreciating and living in the moment.
It's important to remember to live in the present moment and appreciate what is happening right now. Constantly worrying about the future can lead to unnecessary stress and anxiety, preventing you from fully enjoying life.
One of my favorite quotes by Heartsill Wilson says,
“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be a gain, not a loss – good not evil. Success, not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it.”
So, take a deep breath, let go of distractions, and allow yourself to fully embrace the present moment. Your personal growth and well-being will thank you.
